Feng Pao Hsii Scholarship Fund

The Singapore Society of Rheumatology established the Feng Pao Hsii Scholarship Fund on 18th August 2018.

Professor Feng Pao Hsii

Professor Feng Pao Hsii was widely recognized as the Father of Rheumatology in Singapore. He founded the Department of Rheumatology and Immunology in Singapore at Tan Tock Seng Hospital in 1995. He also developed Paediatric Rheumatology, a specialty now firmly established in Kandang Kerbau Women’s and Children’s Hospital and the National University Hospital. He was a teacher, researcher and visionary medical leader. The Singapore Society of Rheumatology (SSR) has inaugurated this named scholarship fund in honour of his memory in August 2018.

The FPH scholarship fund supports two awards:

  • Feng Pao Hsii-Singapore Society of Rheumatology-Asia Pacific League of Associations for Rheumatology (FPH-SSR-APLAR) Fellowship Grant
  • Feng Pao Hsii (FPH) Educational Grant

The FPH-SSR-APLAR Fellowship Grant

This Fellowship Grant enables young rheumatologists from the Asia Pacific region, with preference given to those from developing countries, to be exposed to the practice of rheumatology in Singapore. The aim of the Fellowship is to encourage the sharing of best practices, the development of new skills, and future international collaboration. In addition to training, this Fellowship provides incentive for the candidates to conduct a research project and to publish their work.

SSR will provide the following support:

  • SGD$20,000 per fellow for a six-month fellowship per year (the amount is flexible and will be proportionate to the duration of the period of fellowship training)
  • Up to SGD$4,000 support to present research findings at a rheumatology conference
  • Up to SGD$1,000 for publication costs for an original article in a Medline-listed journal arising from the fellowship training

The FPH Educational Grant

The Educational Grant provides support for Singapore trainee rheumatologists to attend regional or international conferences on the provision that they present a paper or poster. The total sum that will be disbursed is SGD $10,000 per calendar year with a maximum of 10 awardees per year.

The Feng Pao Hsii Scholarship Fund is an ongoing program and the SSR values your donations towards sustaining its continuity.
