The 25th Asia-Pacific League of Associations for Rheumatology Congress will be held in Chiang Mai, Thailand from 7 to 11 December 2023.
The mission of our society is to advance the knowledge and practice of rheumatology through promoting research and organizing scientific discussions and practical demonstrations . We have been actively implementing these objectives since the society was founded in 1976. Involvement in the different activities organised by the SSR over the decades has brought together the rheumatology community . I hope this sense of togetherness will continue to grow along with the size of the membership, and also among the new and younger members as they join.
No account of the SSR and of rheumatology in Singapore is complete without mention of Professor Feng Pao Hsii who pioneered the specialty in our country. His legacy including the lecture and scholarship awards in his name are delineated in this website.
SSR is not only engaged in the rheumatology community in Singapore, but also in the region as a member national organisation of the Asia Pacific League for Associations for Rheumatology( APLAR). The Feng Pao Hsii -SSR-APLAR Fellowship Grant established in 2018 has supported the training of young rheumatologists from the Asia Pacific region, particularly those from developing countries, through providing exposure to the practice of rheumatology in Singapore. Our society intends to increase efforts to further its engagement and profile in the region. The annual Workshops in Rheumatology alternately organised with the Malaysian Society of Rheumatology, interrupted last year in 2020 for the first time since its inception, resumed as a virtual conference this year, reaffirming our close ties with our Malaysian counterparts.
Although the COVID-19 pandemic has been a challenging time, the society plans to increase engagement both in Singapore and in the Asia – Pacific region. This has been boosted by our winning the bid to host the 2024 APLAR Congress in Singapore.
May our members continue to maintain the close ties that have been forged , and together contribute to the progress of the SSR.Read More
The Singapore Society of Rheumatology (SSR) is an organization that represents and brings together specialists and other healthcare professionals active in the field of rheumatology in Singapore.
As an organization we recognize the importance of providing the necessary support for our members and for developing the field of rheumatology to its fullest potential. Therefore, we are focused in promoting the sharing of experience between our members and with experts from other specialties, and also in leveraging on the skills and knowledge of local and international experts to advance rheumatology in Singapore.
‘No man is an island’ and so we actively seek to engage rheumatologists from all over the world to work together with us and our members.
SSR organizes continued medical education (CME) events, scientific workshops, courses, symposia and conferences related to rheumatology. Given the changes brought on by the COVID19 pandemic, we have also actively adapted to remote deliveries of educational activities.
The Society is a member of the Asia Pacific League of Associations for Rheumatology (APLAR).
